Bahrain Royal Medical Services (also known as Bahrain Defense Force Hospital) is one of the major hospitals in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the only hospital where free health care is provided exclusively for non-civilians in the country. It is staffed by 800 personnel and are part of the Bahraini Defence Force.
The Hospital was opened in 1968 as a special unit of the National Guard (currently Bahrain Defense Force) that specialized in treating military personnel. Three decades later, after the hospital was opened, major expansions took place resulting the hospital being the second largest hospital in Bahrain. The hospital currently offers free health care to BDF, Ministry of Interior and the Royal Court employees (including their families). The hospital is also open for government VIP and civilians, but not as a free service (with the emergency unit as an exception).
